So, he was born and raised in America in Hugo in Choctaw County in southeastern Oklahoma. Therefore he is an American citizen by birth. Apparently, he is the son of John Henry Moyers, a laborer and his mother is Ruby Johnson Moyers, Additionally, he was reared in Marshall, Texas.

In 1959, he completed a Master of Divinity degree at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Furthermore, he served as Director of Information while attending SWBTS. Additionally, he was also a Baptist pastor in Weir in Williamson County, near Austin.

Eventually, ordained in 1954 and planned to enter a Doctor of Philosophy program in American Studies at the University of Texas. During Senator Johnson’s unsuccessful submission for the 1960 Democratic U.S. presidential nomination, he served as a top aide. Apart from that, he was also in the general campaign he had to act as the liaison between Democratic vice-presidential candidate Johnson and the Democratic presidential nominee, U.S. Senator John F. Kennedy.

In their production, they started the PBS 1988 documentary series ‘Joseph Joseph Campbell and therefore the Power of Myth’ which was a six one-hour interview between Moyers and Joseph Campbell who was a mythologist.
