Anne did attend Sidwell Friends School and then after studying she did graduate in 1982. Later went to Yale University and she did earn a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in history and literature. Still at Yale University, she also attended the Soviet history course taught by Wolfgang Leonhard in the fall of 1982.
Furthermore, she also got elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Later went to the London School of Economics and she did graduate with a master’s degree in international relations as a Marshall Scholar in 1987. Finally, she went to St Antony’s College, Oxford and this was before becoming a correspondent for The Economist and then moving to Warsaw, Poland, in the year 1988.
Anne Applebaum Career
After Elizabeth did return to Poland in the year 1998 she did continue with her job for The Sunday Telegraph and other newspapers. Anne did a major interview with prime minister Tony Blaire in the year 2001.
In 2003 She also undertook historical research for her book Gulag: A History of the Soviet prison camp system, which won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction. It was also nominated for a National Book Award, the Los Angeles Times book award, and also the National Book Critics Circle Award.
Furthermore, From 2001 to 2005, Applebaum did live in Washington and was also a member of The Washington Post editorial board. Anne wrote about a wide range of US policy issues, such as healthcare, social security, and education. She also wrote a column for The Washington Post which continued for seventeen years.
She did create and ran the Transitions Forum at the Legatum Institute from 2011 to 2016 which was an international think tank and educational charity based in London. Anne also did create a Democracy Lab, a website focusing on countries in the transformation to, or away from, democracy and in which has since become Democracy Post at Washington post.
In the year 2017, she did publish a book the name Red Famine: Stalin’s War on Ukraine, a history of the Holodomor. The book won the Lionel Gelber Prize together with the Duff Cooper Prize for the second time, then making her the only author to ever win the award twice.
Later in July 202o, she did publish Twilight of Democracy which was about The Seductive Lure of Authoritarianism.
