Chris Kamara Biography
Chris Kamara (Kammy) is an English former professional football player and manager who worked as a presenter and football analyst at Sky Sports from the year 1992 to 2022. However, he is famous for being the tough-tackling midfielder. So he has played for a number of teams including Bradford City and Stoke City. Apparently, he also became a manager of the two teams from the year 1995 to 1998. In the year 1998, he became a broadcaster with Sky sports and has since appeared as a presenter on other numerous television programs.

Chris Kamara Early Life/Family
So, having been born in England he is, therefore, a British citizen by birth. His father is Sierra Leonean. However, through his father, he was eligible to play for Sierra Leone and was later to play in the 1994 African Cup of Nations. Apparently, his father was a heavy gambler and this resulted in sometimes his mother pleading for money from neighbors for food. Additionally, being one of the few black families they suffered racist abuse.
Regardless, he remains a great friend of Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson with whom he grew up on the Park End council estate. They also regularly attended matches together. So at the age of 16, he joined Royal Navy with the assistance of his father. Unfortunately, he missed the youth cup final for Middlebrough Boys because of that. He was trained at HMS Raleigh at Torpoint and later transferred to HMS Vernon.

Kamara’s football career started when he was spotted playing for the Navy by Portsmouth manager Ian St John, who signed him on apprentice wages in November 1974 after agreeing to pay the Navy a £200 buy-out fee. He made his first team debut in August 1975 in a 2–0 defeat by Luton Town, winning his chance after Mick Mellows was struck down with a knee injury.

Bradford manager
Eventually, he became a manager after Bradford City chairman Geoffrey Richmond dismissed manager Lennie Lawrence and elevated him from assistant manager to take Lawrence’s place. Basically, his role was to keep the Bantams out of the relegation zone by the end of the 1995 to 1996 season. Later on, he and chairman Geoffrey Richmond had fallen out over Richmond’s insistence on becoming heavily involved in the club’s transfer policy. So he recommended his assistant Paul Jewell to be his successor who went on to have his own highly successful spell as Bradford’s manager.
Stoke City manager
In the year 1998, he was appointed manager of one of his former clubs Stoke City. Additionally, he arrived with bold intentions at the Britannia Stadium that he would build a squad good enough to take the club into the Premier League. While he was in charge he could not recover from their poor form and was relegated to the third tier.
Media Career
Unfortunately, he gave up on his management after his time at Stoke City and instead worked as a pundit for a number of television and radio stations. Fortunately, he became famous on the program for his highly excitable nature and prosperity for comical gaffes. Additionally, his tendency to come out with unusual sayings that baffled host Jeff Stelling and the other studio pundits. Thereafter he has been a broadcaster of various programs. Regardless, in 2022 April it was clear that he would be leaving Sky sports at the end of the football season after working on soccer Saturday for 24 years.
