He is presently working as the anchor of CBC Toronto News with Dwight Drummond at CBLT, CBC Television’s station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dwight is also an award-winning journalist and the host of CBC Toronto News at Six. The news he airs is always on the weeknights on CBC Television. Additionally, Drummond has a working experience of over 30 years, which has led to him winning the 2021  Canadian Screen Award for Best News Anchor, Local. Fortunately, he was also nominated again for the 2022 award.

Dwight began his career working for CTV as a crime specialist and also as the security guard on Electric Circus in 1989. After that, he did move to work as a floor director, studio cameraman, teleprompter operator, anchor of CityNews Streetbeat, deputy chief of assignment, and videographer for CityNews.

Later in 1995, Dwight was accosted by 2 Toronto Police officers in what the officers did describe as a “high-risk takedown”, but which was characterized by outside witnesses as a racial profiling strike as there was not enough evidence that Dwight had done anything besides driving while black.

In addition, not so long ago he did anchor CityNews at Noon and was later made anchor for another newscast, CityNews at 5. However, Dwight lost his anchoring job, when CTV had a layoff in 2010 January. Then he continued to work as the station’s crime specialist.

After that, in 2010 he did join Anne-Marie Mediwake as co-anchor for supper-hour newscasts for CBC News. But in 2016 he did join CTV as the host of Your Morning.


Drummond and the broadcast have earned many Canadian screen awards nominations.  Besides that, Dwight was also the recipient of the Ryerson University Alumni Award of Distinction which was inducted into Ryerson’s Faculty of Radio and also the Television Arts’ Wall of Fame.

Dwight also led the story on CityNews’ Gemini win for Best Newscast together with the top story for City’s Edward R. Murrow win and Best Newscast.
