Freema Agyeman is a famous English actress. She is a highly skilled and very passionate actress who rose to fame after portraying a role as the role of the Doctor’s companion Martha Jones in the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who from 2007 to 2010 and also its spin-off Torchwood in 2008. Agyeman, however, did earn further recognition for portraying  Crown Prosecutor Alesha Phillips in the ITV crime procedural Law & Order: UK  from 2009 to 2012, Amanita Caplan in the Netflix science fiction drama Sense8 from 2015 to 2018, and Dr. Helen Sharpe in the NBC medical drama New Amsterdam from 2018 to 2022.

Agyeman was born and brought up in London, England. Her father Osei is a Ghanaian while her lovely mother Azar is Iranian Kurdish. Unfortunately, when she was still young her parents got divorced. In addition to that, Freema has a young brother called Domonic and an older sister by the name of  Leila.

When Agyeman did embark on her acting career, she then decided to alter the spelling of her birth name, Frema, for professional purposes in order to avoid any difficulties with pronunciation. However before landing the role of Martha Jones in Doctor Who, Agyeman did gain recognition for her portrayal of Lola Wise in the revived version of the ITV soap opera Crossroads.

After that Freema tried out for three different roles in the 2006 series of Doctor Who. Then on June 24, 2005, she auditioned for the character Sally Jacobs in “The Christmas Invasion,” but the part was ultimately given to Anita Briem, who better matched the production team’s vision of an “ice cool blonde” character.
