Macdonald began his career doing short stints working as a reporter and covered the politics in Canberra with regional broadcaster WIN Television. After working there for a while, he then worked for Channel 4 and ITV after moving to the United Kingdom. However, above all, Hamish did build his career as a reporter and news producer. He first worked for Channel 4 News while in the UK, then in 2006, he went on to join Al Jazeera English’s regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and worked as a producer.
During his career tenure, Hamish was awarded the 20th of February 2008 “Young Gay Journalist of the Year” award at the Royal Television Society Awards in London. Later, he was stationed to work for Al Jazeera’s London bureau as well as acting as the United Kingdom correspondent for the Australian breakfast program Sunrise.
