Macdonald began his career doing short stints working as a reporter and covered the politics in Canberra with regional broadcaster WIN Television. After working there for a while, he then worked for Channel 4 and ITV after moving to the United Kingdom. However, above all, Hamish did build his career as a reporter and news producer. He first worked for Channel 4 News while in the UK, then in 2006, he went on to join Al Jazeera English’s regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and worked as a producer.
During his career tenure, Hamish was awarded the 20th of February 2008 “Young Gay Journalist of the Year” award at the Royal Television Society Awards in London.
