Anderson Cooper’s Early Life

Cooper is the young son of Wyatt Emory. In addition to that, his father was an author, screenwriter, actor, and also artist, fashion designer, writer, and heiress Gloria Vanderbilt.

However, his maternal grandparents were millionaire equestrian Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt of the Vanderbilt family and socialite Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt. Also, Cooper is a descendant through his mother, of Civil War brevet Major General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick, who was with General William Tecumseh Sherman on his march through Georgia.

In early media experience, commenced when Cooper was photographed by Diane Arbus for Harper’s Bazaar. After that the age of three, Cooper was a guest on The Tonight Show on September 17, 1970, appearing with his mother.

At the age of nine, he appeared on To Tell the Truth as an impostor. Also from ages 10 to 13, Cooper modeled with Ford Models for Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Macy’s. Anderson’s father died as a result of a heart attack when undergoing open surgery. Wyatt Emory died at the age of 50.

Carter Vanderbilt Cooper’s older brother  Carter committed suicide on July 22, 1988, at the age of 23. He jumped from the 14th-floor terrace of Vanderbilt’s New York City penthouse apartment. at this moment Cooper was 21 years old.

Later Cooper’s mother wrote a book about  Carter Vanderbilt Cooper’s death. The book was called A Mother’s Story. Throughout the book, she expressed her belief that the suicide was caused by a psychotic episode induced by an allergy to the anti-asthma prescription drug salbutamol.

Anderson Cooper Education

Anderson went to  Dalton School. It is a private co-educational university preparatory day school. Located  Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan. Cooper graduated at the age of 17 in Dalton School. Therefore he traveled in Afrika traveled around Africa for several months on a “survival trip”

In addition to that, he contracted malaria on the trip and was hospitalized in Kenya. Later Cooper attended  Yale University where he resided in Trumbull College.

Lastly, Cooper graduated with a  Bachelor of Arts in 1989. So it was in the Manuscript Society where he majored in political science

Anderson Cooper Career

Cooper spent two summers at the Central Intelligence Agency while studying political science. He pursued journalism with no formal journalistic education. Anderson tried to gain entry-level employment with ABC answering telephones but was unsuccessful. this was after he graduated from Yale University.

Later Cooper went to Myanmar on his own with his forged press pass and met with students fighting the Burmese government. Then went to Vietnam to study the Vietnamese language at the University of Hanoi.

Anderson became a correspondent for ABC News in 1995. In the end rose to the position of co-anchor on its overnight World News Now program on September 21, 1999.

In 2001 Coope joined CNN.  My first position at CNN was to anchor alongside Paula Zahn, on the program,  American Morning. Cooper in 2001 became  CNN’s weekend prime-time anchor. Since 2002, he has hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve special from Times Square.

In 2007, Anderson began hosting CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute. The show honored and recognized extraordinary deeds by ordinary people.

Together with Martha Raddatz, Cooper chaired the second presidential election debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. This earned him the first openly LGBT person to moderate a presidential debate in the general election.

Anderson and Andy Cohen joined in 2017  to succeed  Kathy Griffin as co-host of CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage

The 2011 Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Cooper was its narrator, Therefore directed by  Rob Ashford, and starred Daniel Radcliffe.

Cooper has however authored a variety of articles that have appeared in many other outlets, including Details magazine.

Anderson 2006 published a memoir for HarperCollins, Dispatches from the Edge, detailing his life and work in Sri Lanka, Africa, Iraq, and Louisiana over the previous year. Some of the book’s proceeds are donated to charity.

The book topped The New York Times Best Seller list on June 18, 2006.

Cooper served as a guest host on Jeopardy! following the death of Alex Trebek, in April 2021.
