Hoda was born to her loving parents in Norman, Oklahoma, but she did grow up in Morgantown, West Virginia, and Alexandria, Virginia. Her parents were from Egypt, and together with her family, lived in Egypt for one year, and also the same way in Nigeria.

She began her career as a journalist working at CBS News affiliate WXVT in Greenville, Mississippi. Later, she went to ABC affiliate WQAD in Moline, Illinois, as a reporter from 1988 to 1989. With her hard-working skills from 1989 to 1991, Hoda became the weekend anchor and reporter at CBS affiliate WINK in Fort Myers, Florida.
Later, from 1992 to 1998, Hoda was an anchor and also a reporter for CBS affiliate WWL in New Orleans, Louisiana.

She joined NBC News in April 1998 in April as a correspondent for Dateline NBC and all NBC News platforms. However, she was the first host of Today’s first fourth-hour weekday morning broadcast at 10:00 a.m. in September 2007. In today’s Show, Kotb was later joined in 2008 by Kathie Lee Gifford as a co-host.
