She began her career as a journalist working at CBS News affiliate WXVT in Greenville, Mississippi. Later she went to ABC affiliate WQAD in Moline, Illinois as a reporter from 1988 to 1989. With her hard-working skills from 1989 to 1991, Hoda became the weekend anchor and reporter at CBS affiliate WINK in Fort Myers, Florida.
Later from 1992 to 1998, Hoda was an anchor and also a reporter for CBS affiliate WWL in New Orleans, Louisiana.

She did join NBC News in the year 1998 in April as a correspondent for Dateline NBC and all NBC News platforms. However, she was the first host of Today’s first fourth-hour weekday morning broadcast at 10:00 a.m. in September 2007.
