Career
Late in January 1982, Stamos made his acting debut on the serial opera General Hospital as Blackie Parrish, for which he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 1984. He then moved on to play the main character in the brief CBS sitcom Dreams, in which he portrayed a wannabe musician in a group by the same name.
ABC’s Full House, which premiered in the late 1980s, steadily gained popularity and established Stamos’s career. To emphasize his Greek heritage, he requested that the character’s last name be Katsopolis, according to the show’s creator and executive director Jeff Franklin.
The eight-season television show ended in 1995. Co-stars Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, Lori Loughlin, Jodie Sweetin, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Andrea Barber, and Candace Cameron Bure have remained close to Stamos over the years.
Stamos has made numerous appearances in commercials, television shows, stage productions, and made-for-television movies. He did play the lead in the television shows Jake in Progress (2001) and Thieves. (2005). Both programs were on for several hours before being canceled.
