In 1987, when she was 22 years old, Forbes was given the dual roles of Solita Carrera and Sonni Carrera Lewis on the daytime soap opera “Guiding Light.” She did appear on the show for two years and was recognized with a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for her outstanding performance in 1990.
The producers of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” extended an invitation to Forbes to reprise her role as Ro in the spin-off series “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.” However, Forbes declined the offer in order to pursue a career in film. However her portrayal as photographer Carrie Laughlin in the 1993 thriller “Kalifornia” received critical acclaim and earned her a nomination for the Saturn Award from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.
In 1996, Forbes did join the cast of NBC’s popular police drama “Homicide: Life on the Street” as Julianna Cox, the chief medical examiner. She remained with the show for two years but was eventually released as part of a major cast restructuring. She later reprised her role in the 2000 TV special “Homicide: The Movie.”
In addition, Michelle took on the lead role in the adaptation of the comic book “Global Frequency.” Unfortunately, the series failed to be picked up by Warner Bros. networks, and the single-produced episode infamously leaked online eight months later.
