Pedro Pascal is a Chilean-born American actor.  He had taken nearly 20 years taking small roles in film and television. However, his breakthrough came through after portraying a role as Oberyn Martell during the fourth season of the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones in 2014 and also Javier Peña in the Netflix crime series Narcos from 2015 to 2017.

He was born José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal in Santiago, Chile. His father  José Balmaceda Riera is a fertility doctor, while his mother Verónica Pascal Ureta is a child psychologist. His older sister is called   Javiera and his younger brother Nicolás.

In addition, Pedro also has another younger sister named Lux, who is an actress and transgender activist. Pedro claims that his parents were ardent supporters of Allende and well-known members of anti-Pinochet guerrilla organizations. However, his family sought safety in the Venezuelan embassy in Santiago 9 months after his birth as a result and later obtained political asylum in Denmark. Pascal was ultimately brought up in Orange County, California, and San Antonio, Texas after the family relocated there. His family started traveling to Chile frequently when he was eight years old to visit his 34 relatives.

A federal grand jury indicted his father in 1995 for his participation in activities at a reproductive clinic he co-owned with two other people. Pedro’s mother, father, and 2 younger siblings then left for Chile. Pascal claims his father didn’t do anything wrong. Unfortunately, in 1999, his mother committed suicide. He began using her last name professionally after she passed away as a memorial to her and because he believed that Americans had trouble pronouncing his original last name, Balmaceda.
