Yamiche Léone Alcindor is a famous American journalist who hosts Washington Week. She is also a communicator in the white house for  PBS NewsHour and a political contributor to NBC News and MSNBC. Earlier Yamiche used to work as a reporter for USA Today and The New York Times. Yamiche Alcindor Education

Yamiche was born in Miami, Florida to Haitian-born parents. So when she was in high school she was an intern at the Westside Gazette. Therefore the Westside Gazette was an African-American newspaper and the Miami Herald. It was in 2005.

In 2009 at Georgetown University Yamiche obtained a bachelor’s degree in English and government with a minor in African-American studies. During her studies, Alcindor became a member of the predominantly African-American sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha.

Yamiche was impounded at t The Seattle Times in 2006, and the Miami Herald again in 2007. Similarly, Alcindor interned at the Botswanan newspaper Mmegiin 2oo9, and The Washington Post in 2009.

Later she did aspire to become a civil rights journalist. Yamiche got this inspiration from African American Gwen Ifill. In addition to that was also inspired by contemporary newspaper reporting surrounding Emmett Till.

After that, in 2015 Alcindor received a  master’s degree in “broadcast news and documentary filmmaking” at New York University.

Yamiche Alcindor Career

Yamiche first got her full-time job as a reporter at News day, a newspaper based in Melville, New York. At Newsday, she worked there for like two years covering among other things. Alcindor covered the 2010 Haiti earthquake up to the time and became a multimedia reporter for USA Today based in New York City in December 2011 to cover national breaking news.

So in the newspaper, Alcindor reported a lot of things as well as the killing of  Trayvon Martin, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the Ferguson unrest, and the Baltimore protests. It was through these reports that Yamiche earned the name of the emerging journalist by the National Association of Black Journalists in 2013.

That same year, Alcindor began to contribute to NBC News and MSNBC as a guest which was so marvelous. The Programs Yamiche has appeared on include Morning Joe, The Rachel Maddow Show, PoliticsNation with Al Sharpton, Hardball with Chris Matthews, and Meet the Press.

After that Alcindor left USA Today to work for The New York Times as a national political reporter in November 2015. Alcindor covered the presidential campaigns of Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders at The New york times.

Later she produced a documentary called The Trouble with Innocence in 2015. It was about a man who was wrongly convicted of murder. In addition Yamiche also Alcindor also appeared in the 2018 television series The Fourth Estate about Times staff covering the first 100 days of the Trump presidency.

In 2016 Alcindor was nominated for a  Shorty Award in the Journalist category. The following year won an award in a tribute to journalist Gwen Ifill, who had died in November 2016, at the Syracuse University’s Toner Prize ceremony.

Furthermore, in 2018 Yamiche replaced john yang as the White House correspondent of the PBS NewsHour. John yang instead took on NewsHour’s national correspondent. In the position, Alcindor first covered the Trump presidency.

Yamiche did receive the 2020 Aldo Beckman Award for Overall Excellence in White House Coverage from the White House Correspondents’ Association.
